This is what I am talking about. Before game 4 in Houston we see an interview with Luis Scola about losing Yao Ming for the playoffs. Scola is a twelve year pro on teams in Argentina, Spain, and the U.S., with a gold medal from the 04 Olympics with Argentina. Scola said “I am not afraid to play without Yao. I am not even afraid to lose you know. I am just afraid of not playing hard enough, not competing, not fighting, and not leaving everything on the court. If you go out there and we play hard, and we fight all game long, good things will happen. And if we lose, we can take it because we left everything on the court.” This is the attitude that every competitor should have. Scola is known for being a fighter and it shows every single time he steps on the court. The reason why the Rockets are where they are right now is because they have guys like Scola, Battier, Artest, these guys are brawlers. You never get the sense from these guys that they feel undermanned or unconfident. From the first whistle to the last they play at the same pace, full speed ahead! The reason why they can do this should easily be seen in Scola’s statement. They have confidence. They believe in their system, their players, and themselves. I have said before that to be the best you can be you must believe in yourself that you can get the job done everytime. For the team to be successful, you must also believe in your teammates and let them know that you do. Any negative energy only brings the ship down faster than the positive energy can build it up. The best way to do this is to be like Scola. Play hard. My basketball coach in high school was a D1 player and a D1 coach after a knee injury ended his playing career. I learned so much from him about the Team and the Game that I know how these things play out. I have played professional paintball for ten years now and I have seen every situation imaginable. The white board in the locker room always had a list of objectives on it. There was one thing that never changed. The top of the board looked like this: 1. Play Hard 2.
